Kate here! This blog post is going to be an evolving post all about Disney's allergy friendly snack line called Snacks with Character. For starters, I should mention that I am one of those unfortunate people who can no longer eat anything with gluten. I say unfortunate because I miss some things with gluten like my local bakery's a-m-a-z-i-n-g cinnamon buns, but overall the lifestyle has helped my health immensely. Having Celiac requires a lot of diligence, especially when it comes to eating things outside the home. I was recently doing some research about eating gluten free at the Disney parks when I read a quick blurb about Snacks with Character, the allergy friendly snack line. I made it my goal to try to hunt down these snacks on my past trip.
Now first things first, these snacks can be really hard to find. I was able to locate them at Pooh's Corner and Candy Palace and Candy Kitchen in Disneyland. As for Disney California Adventure Park, I found them at Trolley Treats and a little stand right across from Soarin' Around the World.
The snacks are fairly limited inside the parks, they consisted of lemon cookies, chocolate chip cookies, general snack mix, and a trail mix. Not all the snacks are gluten free, so it's very important to read the label. As you can see on the bag above, the no gluten symbol indicates that it's gluten free. The package also contains a certified gluten free label on the back. If you have soy and nut allergies, check for similar symbols on the other packages.
On this trip my purchase was limited to just one of the snacks, the Lemon Burst Cookies. These cookies are absolutely incredible! If you are a fan of lemon-flavored snacks and especially lemon pound cake, these cookies are for you. They are so soft, which means they tend to fall apart in the bag, but the flavor and texture remind me of a lemon cake. While these cookies taste amazing, I quickly learned that they were rich and warranted the phrase less is more.
Best of all, I didn't have any type of reaction to them and now I know I have a safe snack at the parks!
On my next trip, I'll be trying another snack and add my reaction to this blog post, so stay tuned to hear more about the allergy friendly snacks.
